Patterns are all around us.
Organic patterns appear in every aspect of nature...
LeavesĀ š Flowers š Waves on a sandy beach š Snowflakes š Shells š to name but a few.
Structured patterns delight us from every direction...
Floor tiles š Wall tiles š Fabric š Paper towels! š Stained glass windows š and so much more.
As a Machine Embroidery Lover (known as a MEL in our world), patterns can make or break an embroidery design.
A Discovery
Earlier this year, I discovered the ZentangleĀ® method of drawing structured patterns.
It was created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas 20 years ago.
This magical method allows people to express their creativity using a pen and a piece of paper, or a "tile" in the Zentangle world.
Now I've known about Zentangle for years.
I have books about it on my bookshelf!
It wasn't until recently that I really sat down and started to draw some of these structured patterns for myself.
Once I had started, I discovered that I didn't want to stop!
I also found that as I was drawing, my mind was imagining these patterns being stitched out on my embroidery machine.
What can I say, I'm a dedicated MEL!
And so MEL's Tangle Club was born.
What is MEL's Tangle Club?
MEL's Tangle Club is a place for Machine Embroidery Lovers everywhere to supercharge their creativity.
Each month, you'll receive a selection of new patterns and motifs.
Each pattern or motif will be presented with several variations, along with instructions for how to use theĀ variations to create intricate machine embroidery designs using the patterns and motifs as lines and fills.
A monthly get together, hosted in the Meaning of Life Designs Zoom Room, allows us to come together to experiment with the new patterns and motifs, and for you to ask questions about how to use the new patterns and motifs in your own machine embroidery designs.
Think Tutorial + Q&A, held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at noon Pacific time.
That's 60 minutes each month to dedicate to your creative expansion.
Each session will be recorded so that you can rewatch as many times as you like, or watch for the first time if you aren't able to make the live meeting.
Do you need specific software?
The patterns and motifs in MEL's Tangle Club will be provided in the following machine embroidery file formats:
ART ~ ART80 ~ ART90 ~ DST ~ EMB ~ EXP ~ JEF ~ PES ~ VP3
BERNINA Embroidery Software (v8 or v9) or Hatch Embroidery Digitizer (v2 or v3) are recommended.
What if I don't have any software?
No software?
No problem!
You can still enjoy stitching the sample designs provided each month that show off each of the patterns and motifs.
If you love coasters and mug rugs, we have you covered!
What is MEL's Tangle Club PLUS?
MEL's Tangle ClubĀ PLUS is for Machine Embroidery Lovers who are confident using their machine embroidery software and want to create their own variations of each pattern and motif.
MEL's Tangle Club PLUS contains everything in MEL's Tangle Club.
AND...
During an additional monthly get together, hosted in the Meaning of Life Designs Zoom Room, we will examine each new pattern and motif and you will learn what went into creating each pattern and motif.
If you're anything like me, you'll start seeing ways to make simple modifications to each pattern and motif that create an infinite number of possibilities.
MEL's Tangle Club PLUS will meet on the third Wednesday of each month at noon Pacific time.
That's 60 minutes more each month to dedicate to your creative expansion!
Each session will be recorded so that you can rewatch as many times as you like, or watch for the first time if you aren't able to make the live meeting.
MEL's Tangle Club is LIVE!

Meet Your Instructor
Dr. Sarah Vedeler
Since I was a young girl, I've had a love for sewing.
That love transformed into a hobby, a passion, and then a career.
Nearly 2 decades ago, I started designing my own quilts and offering those designs (as well as classes on how to use them) to quilters all over the world.
I discovered my super-power and purpose:
To ignite the fire of creativity in the hearts and minds of people who are hungry to experience the transformative process of creating something beautiful themselves.
Watching people of all skill-levels and walks of life grow their skillset and their confidence using my designs has been incredible.
In beautiful nerdy fashion, I mash up my PhD in Theoretical Computer Science and career as a Software Engineer with a love of color and design.
The result?
Machine embroidery applique and quilting in the hoop designs which allow YOU to create spectacular quilts and other projects.
